Saint of the Week: Saint Mary Magdalene

Shout out to my son, Matthew, who celebrated his birthday on the 24th!
During the first segment of Saints and Sinners, Fr. McKay and I talked about St. Mary Magdalene (7/22), the woman possessed by 7 demons who become one of Jesus closest followers and one of the few who remained with Him as he died on the cross. In 2017, I interviewed Fr. Sean Davidson who wrote, “Saint Mary Magdalene: Prophetess of Eucharistic Love”. Which I have read a couple times now and highly recommend.
In the second segment we had a great “Is that Odd or God” conversation with callers followed by a brief period talking about St. Bridget of Sweden (7/23).
On What The World Needs Now I was joined by guest Claudia Cangilla McAdam who has two new children’s books out, both published by Our Sunday Visitor.
In the first segment we talked about the picture book, “St. Paul’s Nephew to the Rescue” which has it’s basis in chapter 23 of the Acts of the Apostles where St. Paul’s nephew here’s of the plot to kill St. Paul and is able to help his uncle escape. The subplot is well done! I can’t wait to see my grandson’s reaction when he reads the book. Claudia McAdam provides additional materials that go along with the book on her website (click on her name above).
The second book we discussed was, “The Miracle of the August Snow” due out on August 5th, the feast of the Dedication of the Basilica of Saint Mary Major. This is a chapter book for children who are able to read OR children that like to be read to. I wish I had read this book before visiting the Basilica in Rome last summer! Not only are the details provided about the legend of how the Basilica came to be, but the way the author weaves in the stories of Ignatius and Paulus, the twin boys who play a key role in early plans for the Basilica.
One of the benefits of hosting the shows is that I get advance copies of the books and when they are children’s books they usually end up in the hands of my grandkids. I have no doubt that Julia and Parker will love these!
