Yesterday’s shows (6/19/24) are available on the In His Sign Catholic Radio website and the In His Sign Catholic Radio page on Facebook.
During the Saints and Sinners show Father and I talked about St. Anthony of Padua. Saint Anthony’s feast day was 6/13 but we did not get to him last week. Most people think of St. Anthony as the finder of lost items. He may be that, but he was a man of prayer and had a great knowledge of Scripture. This is what helped him to be a great preacher. God had prepared him to preach and teach even though he preferred the solitary life.
St. Romuald was a hermit who founded a number of monasteries, hermitages and a religious order. Like St. Anthony, he desired martyrdom but was denied that privilege. I wonder how many people today are willing to become martyrs for the faith?
On What The World Needs Now I was joined by two guests. In the first segment Claudia Cangilla McAdam discussed her children’s book, “Mother Cabrini: A Heart for the World”. This beautifully illustrated book will give children a great introduction to the woman who would not take “No” for an answer when it came to helping the neediest among the people of her time and place, Italian orphans.
Claudia provides additional material on her website that we can use with our children and grandchildren for this and other books she has published. She will be back on 7/24 to discuss another children’s book about St. Paul!
In the second segment I was joined by Steven Nelson of Gaudent Angeli. He, with others, compiled the title, “The Magdalena Prayer Book: Devotions for Habitual Perfect Contrition and Spiritual Communion”. When I started perusing his book in preparation for the interview I was drawn in by the idea that habitual perfect contrition was achievable. As someone who tries to make confession at least bi-weekly I have questioned my level of contrition This book provides ideas and tools that will help anyone who has a sincere desire to stop offending God! As for Spiritual Communion, Steven mentioned how many of this became familiar with this during the Covid days. With the shortage of priests and rumblings of WW III we may be faced with that again. Even if it doesn’t get to that point again, this book will give much more meaning to your Spiritual Communions which you can make anytime, anywhere!
We didn’t get time to talk about Gaudent Angeli. Check out the website to learn about St. Vibiana and her role in the city and church of Los Angeles.
